FURNITURE CARE Wood Furniture
The beauty of wood furniture
can be preserved with minimal care. Since wood is a natural product, the grain
varies with each piece of furniture. The pattern and knots are natural occurrences
in both solid and veneer construction. Finishes differ slightly on each piece.
These are not considered defects. Dust often with a damp, soft, lint free cloth to
remove everyday airborne particles. Wipe dry when finished so as not to allow
moisture to remain on any surface. Should you choose to polish your furniture, use
a commercial brand without any abrasives or silicone. Use a sparing amount and
avoid excessive rubbing. Polishing isn't needed more than 2 or 3 times a year.
We do not recommend waxing your furniture. • Keep wood away from direct sunlight and avoid
extreme heat, cold or humidity. Wood can expand or contract based on your room
temperature.
• Avoid the use of solvent cleaners, wax, perfumes or cosmetics near your
wood furniture. They can ruin the finish.
• Do not allow liquids to stand on wood. Blot dry immediately.
• Use coasters under both hot or cold drinking glasses and avoid using rubber
or plastic mats, as they can cause staining. NOTE: Solid wood furniture exchanges
moisture with the air, adjusting to temperature and humidity changes. Furniture
responds to extremely dry air by
losing moisture and contracting. Wood naturally expands and contracts as it reacts
to changes in temperature and humidity; expanding in periods of high humidity
and contracting when temperatures are cool and dry. Tabletop leaves may part
slightly without affecting the table's strength and sturdiness. This will correct
itself and close again under humid conditions. This is normal and the set will
provide years of beautiful dining on real hardwood furniture. Over time, wood finishes may fade. This is inevitable
and considered normal wear. Lacquer : To clean lacquer dining sets, wall
units and wardrobes, use only a damp cloth on lacquer doors, sides, and tabletops
of all units. Do not use any furniture polish or cleaners with ammonia base.
Mica cleaner may be used on side panels and shelves only. Cleaning of mirror
backs and mirror doors is also very important. Cleaning solution should be mild,
and should not contain ammonia, vinegar, bleach, or solvents. Cleaning
solutions should be sprayed on a clean cloth. Do not spray directly on mirror.
Spraying directly on mirror can allow the cleaning solution to run down or behind
the mirror and cause discoloration. |
